The lower limb of the medal is engraved with the year of issue and subsequent awards are denoted by adding a 2nd award bar to the ribbon

which is awarded for the same degree of gallantry on land or at sea

those awarded before 1954 and those issued after 1954

As this is a peacekeeping rather than campaign medal
